Ihumātao gets highest heritage listing after record submissions

It has taken years of lobbying and court action to have Ihumātao recognised for its historic and cultural value, but mana whenua can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The disputed Māngere site has been granted the highest level of heritage recognition - status one - after an overwhelming number of submissions in favour.

Despite this, Fletcher Building consent still stands, and a resolution is well overdue.
