A former Solomon Islands prime minister, Derek Sikua, has been chosen as the new opposition leader.
The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says Dr Sikua was elected to the post following the formal resignation of Steve Abana.
Speaking after his election, Dr Sikua said he was privileged and honoured by the confidence his colleagues have in his ability to lead them.
