Officials on Easter Island are holding a Canadian man accused of moving stones from archeological sites.
Bill Vazan of Montreal must remain on the island whilst he is investigated on charges of damaging a historical monument.
Mr Vazan is accused of moving smaller rocks, not of damaging any of the giant moai statues.
The head of criminal investigations, Carlos Soto, says Mr Vazan has created six large figures, two using stones believed to be archeologically significant.
If found guilty he faces a fine of about US$520 or up to three years in jail.
