It's 47 years since the first ever Māori Language Day and 46 years since the Māori Language Petition was presented to Parliament. One of those presenting the petition asking for te reo Māori to be taught in schools was Lee Smith. He was a founding member of the Te Reo Society, now he's kaitiaki reo at Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori - the senior language advisor at the Māori Language Commission. He joins Susie Ferguson in the studio.
