Red Cross hardship grant deadline looms

07:13 am on 9 April 2011

Time is running out for people wanting Red Cross emergency and hardship grants in Christchurch.

The Red Cross Earthquake Commission says about $37 million has been disbursed so far.

Chair Sir John Hansen says about 800 applications per day are still being registered, most of them from the eastern suburbs.

Anyone deprived of power, water or sewerage services for more than a week can apply for the money.

Mayor Bob Parker believes a number of people are still eligible, but may not yet have put in a claim.

Applications can be made until 5pm on Monday through the Red Cross website or by phoning 0800 754 726.
