Australian company bought by Opus

Opus International Consultants has bought an Australian-based rail engineering firm for almost $A9 million.

The global infrastructure company says the Coffee Rail consultancy will fit well with its Australian civil and structural engineering business.

Chief executive David Prentice says Opus is looking to expand in Australia and the rail consultancy adds niche track and signal design to the capability and expertise Opus already has in the rail sector.

"But what Coffee Rail bring is real niche capability that we currently don't have so we see some fantastic synergistic benefits of this acquisition."

Opus will re-name the business Opus Rail and Dr Prentice expects the acquisition to contribute $1 million to its full year profit from 2012.

The company will announce its full year profit in February.
