A man has been shot in the arm and leg in the west Auckland suburb of Sunnyvale.
Police said in a statement they were alerted to an incident on Wattle Rd about 1.20pm.
When they arrived they found a man with gunshot wounds. He has been taken to hospital where he is reported to be in a serious condition.
No one has been arrested in relation to the incident.
Shabbir, who lives just around the corner from the shooting, said he got a shock when he saw gun-toting officers and an ambulance outside his property.
It is a family-friendly neighbourhood and usually very quiet, he said.
But a woman was shot dead on Newington Road just a kilometre away less than 2 months ago, Shabbir said.

Armed police had been stationed at a cordon on Wattle Road but they have now been stood down, with a guard to remain in place overnight.
