Police say they're aware of a video on social media showing a girl being seriously beaten near a public swimming pool in Invercargill yesterday.
Police believe the attack took place at Southland Girls' High School, just around the corner from Splash Palace, a public swimming pool in the suburb of Georgetown.
Officers have not spoken to the victim or received a complaint, but in the video two girls aged around 12 to 14 years old can be seen delivering kicks and punches to the young victim's head and body multiple times.
The assault appears to have occurred between 4pm and 4.30pm yesterday.
A spokesperson said the police are following strong lines of inquiry and expect to speak to those involved.
Police are taking the incident very seriously and anyone with information is asked to contact Invercargill's community constable Reuben Boniface.
