Fire crews have been battling two fires in the North Island overnight.
Several houses in Binnie St, Paihia, were evacuated about 10pm yesterday after a scrub fire broke out.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said seven crews were there and two helicopters would join them at daylight.
In Opotiki, a large area of manuka tree trimmings caught fire in Factory Rd.
Ten crews there are yet to contain it.
