Tri Marine International says its cannery in American Samoa is not benefiting from the federal tax credit which was extended last week.
On Friday the US Congress passed the long-term funding bill for the federal government which includes the extension of the American Samoa Economic Development Tax Credit to the end of next year.
Tri Marine's spokesperson Heidi Happonen says it is unfortunate that Tri Marine and its Samoa Tuna Processors cannery in Pago Pago will not benefit.
She says it is because Samoa Tuna Processors is a relatively new company that was not previously receiving similar tax benefits.
She says Tri Marine is looking into solutions for what is a significant tax disadvantage for a plant which has created hundreds of jobs.
Samoa Tuna Processors opened in January this year following a multi million dollar investment by Tri Marine.
The StarKist cannery is the only cannery benefiting from the tax credit.
