Police in Hawke's Bay are investigating two violent, separate incidents at the weekend that left two men in hospital with serious injuries.
Scene examinations have been completed at two residential properties in Napier to establish the circumstances leading to a 23-year-old man receiving head injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange said that police were told a man fought off an intruder at one of the houses in a violent struggle. He said police are trying to establish if the intruder was the 23-year-old.
In an unrelated incident, Mr De Lange said a scene examination was still to be completed at a Napier address where a 37-year-old man appeared to have been stabbed.
Both men were in a critical condition in Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital on Monday.
