A former Solomon Islands cabinet minister and the current MP for Lau-Mbaelelea is facing criminal charges.

Mr Auga was charged in Honiara and has been released on bail to appear in the magistrates court on 14 March.

Meanwhile the finance minister Snyder Rini has undergone a medical operation in Sydney.

The special secretary to the prime minister Andrew Muaki said Mr Rini was doing well but he could not say when he would return to Honiara.
