New South Wales cleans up after wild weather

10:57 am on 30 October 2013

A storm has lashed parts of New South Wales, leaving widespread property damage and causing six people to be hospitalised.

Residents are mopping up after strong winds and hail lashed parts of Sydney, the Hunter and Central Coast, AAP reports.

The SES received 740 calls for help across the Australian state on Tuesday night due to the wild weather that brought down trees and power lines, ripped roofs of houses, and cut power to around 9000 thousands of homes.

Six people are recovering in hospital following the storm, including a woman who was struck by lightning on the Central Coast.

Others taken to hospital include an elderly couple who became trapped in their car in Lansvale and three people who were hit by a falling tree and power lines at Engadine.
