American character actor Mike Hagerty, best known for his roles in TV series such as Friends and Somebody Somewhere, has died.
Hagerty appeared in numerous television series during his career, including Seinfeld, Cheers, Family Ties, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Friends, in which he spent five episodes as the building superintendent Mr Treeger.
More recent credits included spots on Glee, Lucky Louie, Entourage, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Mindy Project, Grey's Anatomy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community.
He also appeared in films such as Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Wayne's World.
Hagerty's final credit was the HBO comedy-drama series Somebody Somewhere, in which he portrayed Ed Miller, the father of the main character Sam, played by Bridget Everett.
Everett has taken to social media to post about Hagerty's death.
"I loved Mike the instant I met him," she said.
"He was so special. Warm, funny, never met a stranger. We are devastated he has passed."
Everett said Hagerty, 67, was survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty and her wife Kathleen O'Rourke, and their daughter Meg.
Also among the Hollywood figures who paid tribute to Hagerty on social media was writer and director Jay Duplass, who said Hagerty was "a great actor and a great man".
In a statement, HBO said it was "very saddened" to hear about Hagerty's death.
"A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett's father in Somebody Somewhere showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance," the network said.
"Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends."
