A high-risk violent offender is to be relocated near a south Auckland school, just weeks after he was moved from a home near another school.
The man, whose name is suppressed, was released from prison last month after a failed High Court bid by Corrections for him to be subject to a Public Protection Order.
Instead, he was placed temporarily across the road from Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae in Māngere, under an Extended Supervision Order, with two staff and a security guard monitoring him 24 hours a day.
He has since been moved to another house, near Jean Batten School in Māngere, but with special security features including locks, alarms and a 2m-high fence.
Corrections northern operations director Lynette Cave said staff had met with five local school principals and neighbours of the property.
She said the man had 21 parole conditions, which were among the most stringent ever applied.
