Weekend rain has boosted Westport's water supply, but the district's mayor says the town is not yet out of the woods.
Westport and nearby Carter's Beach have been under water restrictions since the collapse of part of its water supply network several months ago.
Mayor Garry Howard said a reservoir is now more than 80 percent full, ensuring about two weeks' supply.
The limits on water use have been eased from essential to restricted.
Mr Howard said levels are monitored each day because the council is concerned about having enough water for summer.
He said the town remains vulnerable to failures in the temporary pumping system, until a long-term solution is found.
