Fiji government concerned about national security

The Fiji government is reported to be concerned about national security after receiving intelligence information that certain elements want to destabilise it.

Radio Fiji says while details of the destabilisation plans are sketchy, yesterday's cabinet meeting was dominated by discussions on national security.

It says the cabinet is taking the intelligence information seriously.

Earlier reports had said people were planning destabilisation during the South Pacific Games in late June and security was being tightened.

Meanwhile, Fiji's opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, says no-one connected with the coup should be spared prosecution.

Mr Beddoes has welcomed the military commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama's decision to charge everyone who had a hand in the overthrow of the Chaudhry government.
