Manslaughter charges over schoolboy's death

13:18 pm on 2 July 2013

Two teenagers now face manslaughter charges in relation to the death last month of a 15-year-old Auckland schoolboy after rugby training.

A 15-year old and a 17-year-old who had previously been charged with assault appeared at Waitakere Youth Court on Tuesday.

The rugby player, whose details are now suppressed, died after a fight which was filmed on mobile phones.

Judge Hemi Taumaunu set a court date to hear a media application to have name suppression lifted in relation to the elder defendant and the victim.

He bailed the teenagers to re-appear in court on 23 July.

More than two dozen members of the defendants' family packed into the court for the hearing.
