Sport: Fiji cricketers to make U19 World Cup debut

12:27 pm on 27 January 2016

The Fiji Under 19 cricketers will make their World Cup debut later today in a tough opening pool match against England in Chittagong.

The Baby Blues spent two weeks in Queensland earlier this month preparing for the global tournament in Bangladesh.

They were also beaten in warm-up matches against current age grade champions South Africa and Scotland.

Head coach Shane Jurgensen spent three years coaching in Bangladesh and knows the conditions well.

"One of the big keys will be making sure that we play spin well because I know the ground that we're playing at will be low and slow. It's a more of a clay type of pitch so our batters have got to be able to play spin really well, be positive, defend well and also have some good shot options to put the pressure back on the bowlers."

Fiji will also face Zimbabwe and the West Indies in pool play over the coming days.
