One person has died following a crash near Gisborne overnight, while a motorcyclist died after a crash in Upper Hutt late yesterday.
Emergency services were notified of a crash on Whatatutu Road at Te Karaka just before 2am this morning.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
It is the second death of the Labour Weekend holiday period, after the death of a motorcyclist in Upper Hutt late yesterday.
Police said a motorcyclist died in a crash near Timberlea at about 5pm.
The weekend road toll began at 4pm yesterday, and ends on Tuesday at 6am.
One person died on the roads last Labour weekend.
