One of China's vice-premiers will visit Samoa next week to attend a regional development forum.
The third China-Pacific Islands economic development and co-operation forum begins on Sunday in Apia.
State-run news agency Xinhua said Hu Chunhua would represent China.
Mr Hu is the third ranked vice-premier responsible for agriculture, water resources, commerce and tourism.
Before that, he was the Communist party's secretary of Guangdong province.
