Elderly Aucklander who was hit by car named

Police have named the man who died after being hit by a car in Papatoetoe on Monday.

He was Gurmej Singh Lally, aged 87, of Papatoetoe.

Lally suffered critical injuries in the incident and died in Middlemore Hospital later that night.

Inspector Kay Lane, Counties Manukau road policing manager, said anyone who had information that could assist police inquiries should contact them.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to Mr Lally's family for their loss after this tragic incident."

The death will be referred to the coroner.
