European football bosses have confirmed there's no way the Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher can play in the Champions league final after his sending off in the semi-final decider against Arsenal in London.
Television replays showed Fletcher had played the ball before Cesc Fabregas tumbled over him, but even if referee Roberto Rosetti accepts he made a mistake, the red card can be rescinded only if the official decided he punished the wrong player.
Fletcher was bitterly disappointed to have been an unused substitute during last season's final win, and he would almost certainly have featured in the final in Rome.
