Australia's opposition Greens leader Richard Di Natale has demanded an apology from the immigration minister Peter Dutton, after it was confirmed that Senator Sarah Hanson-Young had been spied on during a trip to Nauru.
A Senate inquiry was told that staff from Wilson Security, which is contracted to provide security at Canberra's detention centre on Nauru, had followed the Senator and that since then staff had been disciplined by the company.
Despite the evidence, Mr Dutton refused to correct the record and said the Senator was an embarrassment to Australia.
Mr Di Natale says an apology is needed from Mr Dutton for his outrageous and unjustified response.
