Australia parliamentary process on Norfolk called deeply flawed

05:04 am on 8 November 2018

An economist on Norfolk Island says Canberra's direct takeover of the island, two years ago, was based on faulty information.

Australia assumed direct control in July 2016 after the island had enjoyed autonomy since 1979.

Economist Chris Nobbs has analysed the proceedings of the parliamentary standing committee that recommended Canberra take control.

In his report he says the process employed by the committee was deeply flawed.

Don Wiseman asked Mr Nobbs for examples.
