PNG govt offers funding olive branch to Bougainville

Papua New Guinea's government has approved a billion kina (287-million US dollar) facility to generate economic development in Bougainville over 10 years.

The announcement was made by PNG prime minister James Marape whose cabinet made an historic visit to Bougainville this week.

During the visit, the PNG and Bougainville governments were briefed on progress towards the autonomous region's upcoming independence referendum.
