Samoa's parliament has passed legislation to establish a Media Council, despite opposition from an MP who says some journalists do not back the move.
The Faleata west MP and opposition whip, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi, has told parliament it is a waste of time with several media organisations and journalists not in favour of the media law.
The Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says only a few journalists are against the council plan but most members are in full support.
The Samoa Media Council law will become effective as soon the head of state officially endorses the legislation.
