Napier police are seeking more information about an alleged assault on three men in the city on Saturday 27 May.
Police were called at about 10.30pm on Saturday after an incident outside an event in Todd Street.
They said two vehicles arrived with a number of passengers who assaulted three men there.
One of the three who were assaulted, who did not know the other two, then fled the scene and was able to call police.
He reported that he had seen the others who were assaulted bundled into one of the two cars, which took off.
Police said the man who contacted them was not seriously injured, but they had not been able to learn what happened to the other two men.
They called on anyone who witnessed the incident or knew about it to contact them on 105, or online at the police website in the 'Update Report' section, and to reference file number 230528/1394.
