Police have named the woman whose body was found at a property in Christchurch's Addington suburb over the weekend.
She was Juliana Cayena Bonilla Herrera, 37.
Police said she was a Colombian national who had been resident in New Zealand for the past 10 years.
They said they expected their scene examination at the Grove Road property where she was found to continue for all of this week.
Police said they had not made any arrests but were trying to learn about any activity at the scene in the 24 hours prior to the body being found on Saturday night.
Herrera's next of kin in Colombia have been notified and are being supported by New Zealand police and Victim Support.
"Police extend their deepest sympathies to Juliana's loved ones in New Zealand and Colombia at this sad time," detective inspector Scott Anderson said.
A homicide investigation was launched on Sunday after her body was found.
A post-mortem examination was carried out today.
