A hotel and resort themed on the Titanic has been given the green light to be built on Tinian in the Northern Marianas.
The Saipan Tribune reports that the 130 million dollar facility will be built on a 40,000 square metre property on Tinian harbour.
The Titanic cruise ship sank in the North Atlantic in 1912 and the story of the disaster was told in the popular 1997 film 'Titanic' by James Cameron.
Bridge Investment Group has won preliminary consent to build the resort and says it was motivated by the popularity of the movie, which is the top grossing film in China.
It says the Titantic-themed hotel could help it tap into China's growing travel market.
