The criminal court in Papeete has fined French Polynesia's veteran politician, Gaston Flosse, 4,400 US dollars for abusing public funds.
Flosse was found guilty of using the service of a cleaning lady while she was on the payroll of the territorial assembly.
The woman, Tamara Tsing Ting, had told the court that she went to work at his residence during her breaks.
Flosse pointed out that the assembly has 200 staff.
He said he wonders if there are drivers who pick up the children of assembly members from school during working hours.
The case against Flosse was lodged last year - a day after he called a news conference to allege that two assembly members had abused public funds by attending the Pacific Islands Forum in New Zealand.
