06:27 am on 7 October 2019

The threat of Tropical Storm Hagibis has forced government offices and public schools in the Northern Marianas to close today.

A typhoon warning is now in effect for Saipan, Tinian, Alamagan, and Pagan.

It means typhoon conditions, including destructive winds of over 115 kph or more, are expected this afternoon.

The CNMI government has also activated four schools - Koblerville Elementary School, Kagman High School, Marianas High School, and Tinian Elementary School- for use as emergency shelters.

In preparation for the coming storm, CNMI residents were seen filling up on gas stations and going to grocery stores to stock up on essentials.
