French Polynesia has asked for the petanque world championship in Tahiti to be deferred because of the ebola outbreak in Africa.
The call was made by the President Gaston Flosse, saying next month's event should be held at a later date.
He says it's the government's responsibility to protect the people against a possible spread of the deadly disease and he doesn't want to take any risks.
Several competitors from Africa are expected to attend.
