Ship exhaust spilled into New Plymouth's harbour this morning has now been cleaned up.
Earlier today, Port Taranaki was working to contain a black sooty substance spilled by a tanker visiting the harbour.
It said the exhaust was removed by a port boat and a catchment boom.
Taranaki Regional Council's Rhyan Honeyfield said marine life would be monitored over the next few days, but at present there appeared to be little or no impact.
He asked the public to keep their eyes peeled for any lingering pollution.
"If they notice anything they should stay out of the water and call the council on 0800 736 222 to report it."
