One of the world's best drummers will be heading for Christchurch as part of the city's big band festival.
Drummer Steve Gadd has played with Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, the Bee Gees, Frank Sinatra and Bon Jovi.
Christchurch Big Band festival organiser Judith Bell said Mr Gadd would be coming to Christchurch as part of the event, which was in its 12th year.
"Gadd is regarded by many as the world's number one drummer, which makes this a really exciting event for the New Zealand music community," she said.
Mr Gadd is expected to play with the Rodger Fox Big Band as well as James Carter, an award winning baritone saxophonist.
Rodger Fox said he had been trying to get the American to New Zealand for some time.
"It's taken me 20 years of keeping in contact to be able to host Steve Gadd over here," he said.
The festival is planned for Labour Weekend.
