The government has announced more details on how it will attract more bus drivers to the country as part of its work to residency scheme.
Last year Immigration Minister Michael Wood announced that bus drivers, truck drivers, and maritime transport roles would be eligible for a new temporary residence pathway, through a sector agreement.
From today, employers can recruit bus drivers using the accredited employer work visa, so long as they pay them a minimum of $28 an hour.
Employers will also need to sign a memorandum of understanding for improving working conditions for bus drivers.
Truck drivers will be eligible if they are carry class 4 or 5 licences, and skippers and deck hands are also included in the sector agreement.
The two-year work to residence pathway will be uncapped and reviewed after 12 months.
