Police in Samoa have confirmed an investigation into the conduct of the former electoral commissioner, Papali'i Malieau Malietoa.
Papali'i was fired more than three years ago for non-compliance after an investigation by the Public Service Commission.
The attorney general, Lemalu Herman Retzlaff, told the Samoa Observer the commission had uncovered evidence that led to the police investigation.
Papali'i told the newspaper he had no idea he was being investigated, adding he would defend himself.
