Australian Senator Pauline Hanson wants the Australian government to recall its administrator on Norfolk Island.
Norfolk Island was stripped of its autonomy 16 months ago but strong opposition to the move remains.
At the centre of the criticism is the abrasive administrator, Gary Hardgrave, who Ms Hanson said has failed to uphold the obligations of his office and should be immediately replaced.
Ms Hanson is on Norfolk Island at the invitation of the groups wanting Canberra to restore the island's autonomy.
She backs the call and has written to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull asking for a change in approach, starting with the removal of Mr Hardgrave.
"He has not done his job and I think there are a lot of problems here on the island. And what I am hearing is he is arrogant, bombastic, he's actually a dictator, and he is not helping matters at all," she said.
