Sport: Ipswich Jets keen to end Hunters run

08:52 am on 8 August 2015

The Ipswich Jets are confident they can end the Papua New Guinea Hunters' winning run in this afternoon's Queensland Cup rugby league clash.

The Hunters prevailed 40-28 when the teams last met two months ago and have climbed above the Jets into second on the competition ladder thanks to a 12-game unbeaten run.

Ipswich are fresh from the bye and co-coach Ben Walker says they've trained well and weren't even aware of the Hunters recent streak.

"We played them up there six or seven weeks ago and it was a really tough encounter but we're back home and looking forward to it. We've got a huge crowd expected so it should be a high quality game. We fancy ourselves against anyone - obviously they'll have some confidence but they'll also have some doubts: last time they came here we beat them fairly easily so that might be in the back of their minds more than us knowing they've won a few games in a row".

The Ipswich team will also feature a couple of familiar faces to PNG fans with Kumuls representative Rod Griffin and Richie Pandia among their squad.
