New Caledonia's Future Together Party has won the municipal election in the town of Thio after the collective resignation of the town council.
The Nouvelles Caledoniennes newspaper reports that list led by Thierry Song won ahead of the Caledonian Union/Palika list.
Turnout was above 75 percent.
The previous council experienced a range of difficulties and failed to approve a budget.
A new mayor is to be chosen later this week.
