Vanuatu's Port Vila international airport was reopened by Prime Minister Charlot Salwai during the weekend.
Over the past three years, the runway has been rebuilt by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company.
That followed complaints from Qantas and Air New Zealand, which both cancelled flights to Port Vila citing unsafe runway conditions.
Mr Salwai told the Daily Post his government's priority was to repair the runway to meet international standards, because Port Vila International Airport is the country's gateway to the world.
The project received tens of millions of dollars in funding from the World Bank.
