Tough times hit Hilltop School

09:15 am on 30 December 2008

The demise of an Auckland school is being attributed to the current tough economic times. Hilltop School in Auckland has been forced to close because of a falling roll.

The school was founded 93 years ago and charges fees of about $10,000 a year.

Chairperson Rhonda Evans told Summer Report that only 50 families are committed to having their children at the school and a tough decision had to be made about its ongoing viability.

She believes the present financial climate led to this situation.
