Estère: Local singer/producer Estère begins a four-date tour of the country this Friday in support of the re-release of her self-titled album, which comes with new remixes from Grayson Gilmour and Paddy Fred. The first stop of the tour will see her play Neck of the Woods in Auckland alongside Miloux and Chelsea Jade, before dates in Christchurch, Dunedin and a private show in Wellington which you can register to get tickets for here. In the meantime, and in case you missed it, watch as Estere breaks down beats and shows us how she draws influence from unusual and non-traditional sounds.
No More Heroes: Originally released back in 2006, No More Heroes is a feature documentary “charting the birth of skateboarding in New Zealand and the rise and fall during its 1970s explosion.” Due to a lack of funds, the film had a short life, with director Andrew Moore saying that the music licensing rights couldn’t be sustained. But with the help of Boosted donors, Moore has since teamed up with Flying Nun to re-soundtrack the film and it sees its release this Sunday at the Pt. Chev RSA. Find out more here.
Feastock: Now in its seventh year, Dunedin’s annual Feastock festival takes place this Saturday with a lineup that includes Death and The Maiden, Iron Mammoth, Julian Temple Band and lots more. The festival is split into two, with the day part of the event taking place on Fea Street in Dalmore and the night’s festivities at Re:Fuel. Caroles and Greenfog: With their new album, Momentary Decline, just released, Auckland band Caroles are about to begin their nine-date ‘Up In Smoke’ joint tour with post-rock drone band Greenfog. Their first show is at the Kings Arms sports bar on Friday and they head south for shows in Hamilton and Tauranga over the weekend. Seth Frightening and Heroes For Sale will be playing support for the Auckland show and you can find the full details of their tour over at Under The Radar.
Jurassic 5: More popular than you think, Jurassic 5 are in the midst of a four-date tour of the country, with three of those shows taking place at Auckland’s Powerstation over the next three nights. They’re sideshows that come as part of the Los Angeles rap act’s appearance down under at the Byron Bay Bluesfest and the high demand resulted in a revised NZ schedule with a Christchurch show having to be cancelled. While Friday and Saturday’s shows are sold out, tickets are still available for tonight’s show via Ticketmaster.
Billy Apple: Billy Apple, the NZ-born artist who emerged in the ‘Pop’ art scene of the sixties and the conceptual art movement that began in the seventies, is currently showing his work at the Auckland Art Gallery. The exhibition, which includes work from across Apple’s career and “proves the extent to which Billy Apple has made art his life and life his art,” runs until June 21, and is free to check out. Charlie Freak, Fields, Whiteout Boy and Jock Horrors: A range of local bands play tonight at Auckland all-ages venue Ellen Melville Hall (that means no alcohol).
