Canterbury crash victims named

The three people who died in separate crashes in Canterbury over a 48-hour period have been named.

A van collided with a car in central Christchurch on Saturday night, and Aliielua Fesili Salaivao, 38, was thrown from his van and died.

On Sunday night, a car and a bus collided at a city intersection, killing 44-year old Trish Anne Beets.

Yesterday afternoon, a car rolled on State Highway 8 near Lake Pukaki. Steven Charles Skinner, 45, died at the scene.

The deaths have been referred to the coroner and police investigations into the crashes are continuing.

Police in Canterbury said yesterday there had been 13 more deaths on the region's roads so far this year compared to last year. That figure has risen to 14 with Mr Skinner's death.
