Southland police believe a group of Invercargill youths are responsible for a sharp increase in car thefts and burglaries at vape stores.
The thieves have been targeting Mazdas, Nissans and Toyotas over the past few months in Invercargill and throughout Southland.
Police say three young people are currently before the youth justice system and they are working to find others involved.
Owners of vehicles, particularly those mentioned, are being asked to stay vigilant and keep them securely parked overnight.
Police said owners should consider installing an immobiliser or an additional locking device.
