The Asian Development Bank has given Papua New Guinea US$1 million to help fund relief and recovery activities following February's 7.5 magnitude earthquake.

The ADB's David Hill said the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks caused widespread destruction and loss of life and the grant would help restore livelihoods.
He said the ADB stood ready to provide further assistance for the stricken provinces to rebuild.
PNG Treasurer Charles Abel said the government appreciated the ADB help as rehabilitation costs for water, roads, electricity, schools, and other sectors were likely to be very significant.
This week Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said the initial costing of damages in Hela Province alone was over US$61m.
The government has made a commitment for the next three to four years of $138m for the infrastructure rebuild.
