A person has drowned at Auckland's notoriously dangerous Muriwai Beach.
Police said officers were called to the beach around 4pm this afternoon after a person had got into difficulty in the water.
Surf lifesavers brought the person to shore but could not revive them.
"Our thoughts are with the whānau and friends of the deceased," police said.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
