The school has been closed since Tuesday due to staff shortages.

It is understood a number of staff have stepped down while an investigation is carried out into allegations of abuse at the school.

Ministry of Education Te Tai Runga (South) leader Nancy Bell said staff met with Gloriavale Christian School board members on Friday morning to talk through their plan for reopening the school.

It plans to reopen next Tuesday for all 183 students, with a combination of classroom teaching and learning from home.

As a private school, the employment of teachers is managed by the school and as such the ministry was unable to comment on how many employees work at the school.
