A police incident that closed part of Auckland's southern motorway and caused traffic chaos in the city is over, and the motorway is now open again.
All lanes were shut earlier this afternoon as police dealt with a young woman on the bridge on Grafton Rd, above the motorway.
Several lanes were reopened as the situation was brought under control.
Police pulled the woman to safety about 5pm, and all lanes were now open again.
Traffic was expected to be heavy for some time.
Police said the young woman would be seen by medical professionals for assessment.
"During this incident, police have tried to ensure the movement of traffic continued ... however our priority was the safety of everyone."
They thanked motorists for their patience and understanding during the delays.
