Medical officer of health William Rainger said this takes the number of cases in Auckland for the year to 27, with 13 of those hospitalised.

He expects that number to increase as holiday travel and public events speeds up transmission of the virus.

Dr Rainger said regional public health staff are still contacting all those known to have been exposed to people while infectious, and they are asking those who are not immune to watch for symptoms and stay at home.
